These guys have definitely created a bit of a stir amongst London audiences as they presented a set of Bohemian friends singing in a pub; By no means an art nouveau idea, the execution was flawless and this month the show has gone on to rock summer audiences in Soho Theater, not far away from the black tie events at ENO and ROH. The run ends Sep 4th. Clearly a don`t miss!
'To sing is the most human of the art form delivery, more than perhaps an instrument which has to be tuned mechanically: You are the tuner, you are the vessel, everything depends on how you feel as a person. It is for you to hear how beautiful your instrument is. From you to you with much much love. That way you can send it out to the public because they make the careers. Once they accept you, and your freedom to be, and your love of singing, they never leave you, there is no love like that.'
As with most young singers and musicians, we spend our summers attending master classes and working together with professional musicians to further hone our craft; It is a equally a contact making opportunity and visiting different musical centers in the world.
I have just finished working with the great Roger Vignoles at the Freistadt Festival, a fun and funky music festival in upper austria, combining the skills and enthusiasm of musicians of all ages for one week, culminating in concerts and wonderful evening recitals.
Currently I am studying in Vienna together with the Voice teacher Rudolf Piernay, who famously taught Bryn Terfel at Guildhall School of Music. With fellow singers mainly from Germany, we work on opera, lied and oratorio repertoire in joint and single sessions.
Vienna is one of the great music centers of the world and it is truly inspiring to be amongst such traditions.
Pictures will follow soon. There is hardly any time for anything other than singing but as always I intend to work and play hard. Hazy early morning coffees are followed by intense warming up sessions, learning new repertoire; my lovely hosts prepare the most amazing lunches and dinners with much wine and song, and there is even time for late night concerts by candlelight, singing Schubert for new friends we met the day before!
