Baritone Marcus Farnsworth

Marcus Farnsworth has made quite a name for himself, recently winning the Wigmore Hall International Song Competition. He studies with Glenville Hargreaves and Audrey Hyland on the opera course at the Royal Academy of Music.
On Friday Evening Marcus gave a unique Schumann recital at the National Portrait Gallery accompanied by James Cheung, himself a distinguished chamber musician and song accompanist. The programme included 6 Gedichte und Requiem by Lenau, and the Eichendorff Liederkreis. Marcus has a fantastic understanding for the song repertoire, underlined by a beautiful colour and tone. Just as much, the National Portrait Gallery was a fantastic venue for such an evening! Watch out for similar events scattered around London Galleries and Art homes! German Lied especially, often is a thing for small audiences, in small circles, meant for friends even. Marcus was in the best of company, not least, Georg Friedrich Handel, his portrait hanging tall amongst fellow actors, musicians and artists, listening closely without doubt.
